The author is a marine biologist and very talented photographer.  He has been recognised many times, including a prize in the "BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year" competition.  He has also won assignments from the National Geographic Magazine.

ABOUT THE LAKE

Lake Tanganyika is much more than a simple lake, it is maybe THE LAKE !  It is the longest in Africa and the second deepest in the world, and it is also believed to be the oldest on the planet.  About 20% of surface freshwater on Earth lies on it.  Its crystal clear waters hide one of the greatest evolution laboratories ever known in natural history.

Lake Tanganyika has never been connected to the ocean, however, typically marine creatures have developed in there through millions of years.  Thus jellyfishes, sponges, crabs and a wide variety of endemic fishes make the lake´s waters  a true inland sea of sparkling beauty.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Angel M. Fitor is a natural history photographer devoted to aquatic environments.  His work has been published worldwide through several books and magazines, including acclaimed National Geographic magazine.  His work has also been recognized several times by the prestigious BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year Awards.

The development of this book took several long-term expeditions to that remote part of the world.  More than 500 diving hours, a snake biting and some days arrested are just some of the stories behind the making of this wonderful work.
